Field Maps: How to generate Field Map forms from existing feature class

This knowledgebase article shows you how to generate ArcGIS Field Maps forms directly from an existing feature class by leveraging the Form Builder in Field Maps Designer or ArcGIS Online. This

let's you avoid manually recreating forms for each project.

Prepare Your Feature Class

Ensure your feature class (in a hosted feature layer or feature service) has:

  1. Correct field names and data types
  2. Domains (coded value lists) set up in ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online — these will automatically become dropdowns in the form
  3. Field aliases for user-friendly labels

  2. Right-click the feature class → Share → Web Layer → Publish Web Layer
  3. Enable Feature capability (editable if needed)

Note: If it’s already in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise, skip this step

  1. In Field Maps Designer, open the configured form
  2. Use Save As to duplicate the map and point it to a different layer

Note: If you set up domains and field aliases in the geodatabase before publishing, Field Maps will automatically generate a clean, ready-to-use form without much manual editing.
